I moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul 9 months ago after living in the People's Republic of Seattle for ten years. I'm so happy to be gone that I have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure I'm not dreaming. When you hate a place so much, yet it is touted as a Utopia, one starts to wonder if something is wrong with them. Fear not, Seattle truly does suck and I am sooooooooooo happy to be outta there!

I'm a Missouri boy, born & raised in a rural area on a dirt road. I grew up poor but I had the desire to pull myself out of poverty.
So I went to college & medical school after a stint in the army. I am now a resident physician in Seattle. I applied to residency here because I thought naively that Seattle was where it was happening. Boy was I wrong.
My biggest peeve is that I live 14 miles from the hospital, yet it takes me over an hour to get to & from work daily. When I lived in KC, which is by the way comparable in size to the emerald shitty, 14 miles to medical school took me 14 minutes. How can this be so?
Well for one thing, the dorks who run this state weren't forward thinking enough to keep up with the pace of growth. I cannot fathom why there is so little freeway in a city this size. Go to KC, & you'll see that there are at least 3 options for freeway routes to get to any point in the city! How can the city planners be so lame?
And don't even get me started on the lousy choices for eating establishments in this shithole. Seattle calls itself world class? Dudes, KC is by far, more world class when it comes to dining & transportation than this dump. KC may not have a train system, but dammit, we don't need it. You can get where you need to go by car easily.
I also want to know why four out of the five dining places within 10 minutes of my house are TERIYAKI?
God this place sucks more than the natives will ever know

I don't know what I would've done without this website! Not only is it a place to rant and vent about the oddness of the Northwest. It has been my proof that I am not crazy.

How about those Mountaineers?

Somebody posted something about the Mountaineers and this needs to be brought to the top! This is the big hiking club in Seattle and since there's nothing else to do, it's a big thing to join up for meeting people, etc.
They are SO weird! If you think you can join to, for example, learn about hiking, or meet people, forget it. The worst attributes of Seattle people surface with the Mountaineers.

Survival Guide for Surviving here in the Northwest

Okay, so the Pacific Northwest is a very beautiful place in itself, with beautiful mountains, lakes, ocean, mild weather, opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, kayaking, etc. But why are the natives so weird here? I've lived here for several years and feel that people here are stuck at some point in adolescence forever, even though they may develop bellies and salt and pepper hair. I’ve read a lot of posts from frustrated people dealing with the problems here and one common theme appears over and over again – the Pacific Northwest is extremely overpriced and that’s why so many people are forced to live here, whether they like it or not. It’s not easy to just move out. But there’s always hope, and after some pondering, I’ve come up with a list of tips on how to survive here until you can afford to move somewhere better:

YES! Seattle can be a blessing if you think about it.... When I say "Seattle" I of course mean the "perfect" people I've come in contact with since moving here years ago (clearing throat...cough cough).....

I moved here from Atlanta 4 years ago looking for a place that offered beauty and openmindedness. Right away, my dream of what I thought the place would be like began to melt away.

“CELL”

Verse -
I was on the wrong side of the track
Treading water and sinking fast
Well I’m back at the sanitarium
Going crazy like a ding bat
So I painted the walls flat black
And I look out the windows and nothings changed

Seattle's unapproachable women and creep mentality

Hi there,
My experience with Seattle and Washingtonian women in general, inspired me to write these chapters in my ebook "Why I am Happier in Europe/Russia", which can be read in its entirety at:

Just Moved Here From NYC, and Apparently it was the Biggest Mistake of my Life

Holy Crap, can someone please explain to me what in the hell is wrong with the people in this city? I've only been here 2 months and I find myself continually scratching my head. I've been around the country and have traveled overseas, and the people in this city are quite possibly the most uninformed, naive, irrational, androgenous, smelly, misguided, obnoxious, nosey people I've ever met/seen in my entire life.

After reading so many of the posts on this site
( such empathy!!! ) I'm struck by the fact that so many people that have left the area still feel the need to villify it. I really thought I was alone until I googled " Seattle sucks " just to see what would happen.
