Seattle = Microcosm of America + Soul-Destroying Weather?

Ok, having lived in several other cities, I'm saddened to report that a lot of the things people are (rightfully) pissed-off about here are alive and well elsewhere--they just seem to differ in their specifics. Here are just a few:

There is a time for departure...

I realized Seattle wasn't working out for me about 14 months into living here, however, via the clarity of a waking dream I had one morning this February it hit me. I mean it really, really hit me that I had lost myself along the last 8 years.

I am a liberal so yeah I am a good Seattle candidate in some sense. I mean I don't generally have shouting matches with my neighbors because there's an antiwar sign in one of our windows and nobody burns crosses on our lawn because we're not into that son of god shit. People are just so damn accepting here, but only so long as you mind your own business and don't have conversations with them that exceed two minutes in length. After living in NYC for twenty years this "I'm a nice white liberal but don't disturb my isolation" shit is really getting to me and my wife.

Even Portland people are nicer than Seattle.

A recent visit to Portland belies a difference between the two Northwest sister cities. People ACTUALLY interact in the Rose City!

Desperate to Leave The Northwest

This may not be the place for this, but I need some help. I have lived in Washington State for 10 years now. After a short time of living in Seattle I got the weird vibe, but I believed no where is perfect ,so I kept trying to make it work. I liked the cool temperate climate, and things seemed normal on the surface. I was trying so hard to feel at home. I told myself that I needed to learn how to be independent and Seattle was showing me how to be. I realize now that I was really just lonely.

An Unusual City

I am from Washington, DC and used to live in Seattle for a few years. I love the scenery, facilities, overall cleanliness, and unique arts culture the city has. Plus, the Pike Place Market and University of Washington really are great amenities for this city to have. However, to use a cliche, the buck stops here.

Seattle is the City of Fear

I have read through many of these posts, especially the ones defending Seattle (at least the ones that seem serious). I have disovered a common theme among the defenders of Seattle. They are upset that outsiders have brought different, or, dare I say, American values to Seattle. They hate that outsiders have come in and brought their money and work ethic and even God with them.
It seems to me that the rest of the country changed and left Seattle behind. Now that Seattle needs to catch up, it doesn't know how and doesn't have the people to do it.

I am a native Washingtonian, born and bred. I can remember when Seattle was not as bad as it is now. There was a different Seattle before the 1980's. Now this city is not the Seattle I used to know.

If your Lesbian & black find another city!!

I am a black lesbian 43. I moved here in 1975 with my mother to escape an abusive situation only to move here and suffer more abusive treatment by other Seattle residents. And the more the years have passed the more I notice the people here just have not changed.
