Portland kicks Seattle's ass!

There was a time when Seattle was actually a decent town but unfortunately all of that went out the door. Fortunately, there is one Northwest town that has gotten it right so far. Portland, Oregon. I just went for a visit a few days ago and here's what I have to say about Portland.
Unlike Seattle, Portland had the balls to start a light rail system backed up by a fairly reliable bus service. Unlike Seattle, Portland still has that quirky charm and people actually will talk to you on the streets or in bars. People have this problem with interacting with other people. It had just gotten worse in the last 15 years.

Portland is more outdoorsy and there is more of a sense of community down there. Seattle is of an indoor kind of place and has become more dysfunctional and the community that had existed is no longer there. Plus you have this "us vs. them" mentality that I find disturbing. BTW....it rains less in Portland than in Seattle. It's a fact!

Other reasons to like Portland. The bars close 1 hour later than in Washington state. You can still smoke in the bars and tons of strip clubs! You can have an actual drink at these strip clubs. It has a thriving art and music scene as well. There's still that certain ecelecticness to the place. It seems like the City of Seattle is trying to put an end whatever's left of the nightlife and turning Seattle into Salt Lake City. I mean a distance rule in the strip clubs and you cannot even drink??? Oh please! Seattle has seemed to have lost it's sense of humor as well. I think that all died after the WTO mess and the Mardi Gras riot. Seattle has changed too much.

Other reasons to like Portland over Seattle is the rents still aren't too bad. They are not cheap but they are not like Seattle's rents either. Also, they have a good bookstore as well called Powell's.

All I know is I don't hate Seattle but I just hate what it has become. I just hope Portland people keep on maintaining their uniqueness and keep that free-wheeling spirit.

I have to say that, 15 years ago, Seattle was fairly decent. I think the locals started acting weirder and weirder as more people moved in.

I've only been to Portland a few times, and it seemed okay -- I was still suspicious of it because it's the Northwest and Seattle has made be pretty biased against this part of the country in general.

I noticed that people in Portland at least have some sense of humor, though.
