I noticed that as well, even in minute things like that, indicative of their non openness that is reflection of their mentality here. They are also overly aware of things here that if you voice something out you think they would not care but they hear you and try to "correct" you .

And God forbid if you accidentally bump into them. Then you'll get the full, ugly passive aggressive brunt from them, like "Oh my goodness - what manners!", or "Maybe she likes you, so she's bumping into you", or just a nasty stare. Weirdos these people are. No wonder so many serial killers and other kooks are born here.

Are you from the west? Westerners have a large personal space. I lived all over the western US and didn't notice this until I moved back east. I was repulsed at people standing so close or brushing against me, or somebody behind me in a line being so close I coul feel their breath on my hair. I still back off - don't think I'll ever get used to it. Makes me claustrophobic. I too think Seattleites get weird but I think this particular thing is a western cultural trait.
