Let's face it. We are living among backwards hicks from the sticks. No social/interpersonal skills. It probably all started with the first settlers being cliquish and weary of others. Each generation is taught this way of life. And so it is spread among any who move here as well. You become like your environment/community. It's human nature.

Your comments on these people going to parties to take advantage of the free food is so hauntingly accurate, I feel compelled to comment.

When I first came here about 8 or so years ago, I sensed that the "average" Seattle type, be he from the city proper or anywhere from this tri-county area, seriously lacked basic class. It didn't matter what he (or she, for that metter) drove. They were just these people whose auras were nasty, gnarly, and crude.

My point here is that it wasn't until comming to Seattle that I saw for the first time in my life, ever, people actually waiting in line in Costco for the free samples. Standing in line! How tacky! I first witnessed this at the Costco on 4th Av in Seattle. At the time, I thought , well these must be the city dwellers who probably are a little trashier. But then I witnessed the same thing in "civilized" Issaquah. People standing in a long line waiting while the little Asian lady was waiting for the toaster-oven pizza or whatever to finish baking. It turned me off and made me feel so queasy that to this day, almost 8 years later, I try to avoid the free samples at Costco out of concern that i too might be perceived as a classless lowlife driving a shiny new car. I know this sounds silly, but it's true.

So I can certainly imagine how these collective low-lifes would go to someone's home for a party and remain aloof while hogging down the free food. That's about the extent of any percieved Seattle intelligence...just go for the free food. Who cares if it's rude.

Obviously, Miss Manners must have abandones Seattle!
